Review: Try Not To Fart (Xbox Live Indie)

Fart humor is not always funny, but it CAN be funny if done right.  I enjoy things that are funny.  And look, how could I NOT review a game with a title like this?

Each level of Try Not to Fart by Silver Dollar Games features crudely animated characters in familiar social situations where farting would be inappropriate.  Your character is going through all the stages of wooing his special lady friend: You meet her at a bar, take her to a restaurant, go to the movies, meet her parents, etc.  And in each scenario you’re seemingly loaded with noxious fumes that, if released, would embarrass and disgust your woman, causing an instant end to your relationship.

To not fart, you must hold down a button on the controller as indicated on screen and then release it when told to do so.  Sounds simple, but the game gets rather sadistic when you start having to hold down 4-7 buttons at a time, releasing them in a different order than when you initially starting.  It turns into a game of Twister for your fingers, and ends up being quite challenging.

The animation is Dr. Katz minus the epilepsy, and the audio is amusing yet disjointed.  While you’re hearing snippets of situationally appropriate conversation, it doesn’t flow together like the characters are actually talking.  Understandable for an indie game I guess.  The dialogue is amusing at times, but it’s almost worth it to screw up once or twice each level to hear the reactions of the other characters.  Ripping a juicy one and shocking your girlfriend’s parents has never been so much fun.

The only fault I have with the game, and this is more of a problem with the Xbox Live Indie Games as an entire platform, is the lack of global/friends leaderboards.  There are local leaderboards, but that really doesn’t lend to much replayability.  Can I take a Polaroid of my high score and send it in for a fart patch?

For just a buck (or 80 Microsoft Points), Try Not To Fart is a worthy investment.  It’s cute, charming, crude and fun all at the same time.

The title alone sells me on this game… I just can’t believe it took this long for a game like this to come out.

This game is hilarious, not just because of the fart jokes but I actually think the disjointed dialogue is the most amusing part. All that aside the gameplay is good. Its one part Simon and one part Twister for your fingers.

… and yes it TOTALLY is worth messing up once or twice during the levels to hear the dialogue.

This game is the highest quality fartcentric game I’ve ever played. The laughter it has brought to my household cannot be properly described with words.

Any time I’m sad, or mad, I just play this game and instant laughs!
