Review: This Way That Way (Xbox Live Indie)
This Way That Way is a logic game in which you must move the cutely named “That Guy” from the starting position to an exit represented by a green dot. A top-down view with 8-bit style graphics, there’s nothing remarkable about the presentation at all. Controls are simple. You move “That Guy” either up, down, left, or right as many squares as you want (or can depending on the terrain or enemies) in order to get him (I assume it’s a male since it’s referred to as “That Guy”) to the exit in as few of moves as possible.
As simple as that sounds, there’s a bit of a twist. The gimmick in this logic game is that once you change directions, you can’t travel in a previously-used direction until all other directions have been traversed by at least one square. Confusing? It’s really not. Basically if the most efficient path is to go right four squares, up eight squares, and right again – you can’t do it. You’ll have to mix in some “wasted” moves to circle around so you can go right again.
It’s not as difficult as it sounds, but you do have to think differently. Of course, each level has a par number of moves in order for you to get the best ranking. One misstep and it’s a silver star for you, though.
There are over a hundred puzzles to challenge you and the game constantly throws new obstacles at you. This Way That Way does what it does well. Unfortunately that’s all it does.
